We are looking for an enthusiastic Project Officer for the Fleming Fund Fellowship Schemes at the University of Edinburgh.
The Fleming Fund Fellowships at the University of Edinburgh build knowledge and capacity in southern and east Africa to tackle the global challenge of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). We are now looking for an experienced Project Officer to work with new fellows in Malawi and Kenya to support their fellowship activities, including delivery of online training, visits to Edinburgh for periods of training, in-country projects, and international travel.
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working. There may be opportunities for optional travel to Africa during the course of the fellowship activities.
The Opportunity:
Fleming Fund is a UK AID programme that addresses AMR in low-and-middle-income countries by building capacity in surveillance and data management. Professional fellows on the fellowship scheme from Zambia, Kenya, Malawi and Uganda are paired with mentors at the University of Edinburgh, who then support the fellow to undertake training in the technical and transferable skills that are needed to tackle AMR. This training is designed to align with the needs and aims of the National Action Plans for AMR in each country, so that the fellows can directly contribute to place-based activities that will reduce the burden of AMR.
The Project Officer will support the day-to-day delivery of fellowship activities, working closely with the Training and Communications Manager and the Programme Manager, to help fellows successfully undertake a programme of bespoke training, and ensure that synergies between fellows are maximised.

- Degree-level education plus relevant work experience Or Significant broad experience acquired through a combination of job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience
- Enthusiastic, flexible, can-do attitude, appreciating the value and challenges of team-working
