About the job

To undertake basic cleaning of the internal environment of the units, either ‘on-train or whilst berthed at the stations, ensuring all trains are clean and presented to the highest standard. Ensure cleaning duties are carried out in accordance with laid down schedules using only approved equipment and chemicals and wearing the appropriate clothing as specified in the COSHH regulations.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • General cleaning of the interior of the units, to include vacuuming and polishing.
  • Removal of graffiti damage to the inside of the units, repairing units where necessary.
  • Replace maps and labels as needed.
  • Undertake cleaning of biological hazards.
  • Clean and restock the WC on the train, operating the toilet unblocking and emptying machinery.
  • General cleaning of the workplace to include mess room, and offices.
  • Perform station related activities as directed by the Local Manager such as the removal of litter.
  • The use and basic upkeep of CET plant and equipment as laid down in SWRs specifications.
  • Ensure safety clothing and equipment supplied is used as dictated by the task being performed and is maintained in sound condition or renewed.
  • Complete paperwork as required, detailing, and signing for all work carried out.
  • Advise Production Manager / Supervisor of any problems or defects identified and any work arising from the issues.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.

Youll need to:

  • Comply with safety systems and responsibilities at all times.
  • Comply with the Rules as defined in Network Rail Group Standard, South Western Railways Employee Handbook, other Regulations and Instructions, Group Standards and Legislation. Undertaking bi-annual re-examination of competency if applicable to the post.
  • Develop a pro-active approach to safety and quality issues.
  • Ensure your personal safety and that of others at all times.
  • Carry out emergency procedures when required.
  • Report any irregularities, faults or unusual occurrences in the prescribed manner, maintaining a written record.
  • Wear uniform and safety clothing, including name badge.
  • Participate in all staff briefings to ensure you are informed of all relevant information.
  • Examine all notices, publications, and instructions.
  • Principle accountabilities may differ from Station to Station, and you will be required to sign a formal job description.

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Normal colour perception

Applicants who require a visa, must have at least 6 months remaining at the time of their appointment.

Working pattern

You will work an average of 37 hours per week across and 5 days out of 7.

Working through a roster pattern Sunday to Saturday, shift times being 0800 to 1524 and 1515 to 2239.
