Following significant investment in our information services estate, and with a comprehensive Race Equity Action Plan and commitment to becoming an anti-racist organisation, we’re pleased to announce a new opportunity for an Archivist to join our information services team.

The postholder will work with the department to institute and ensure a robust archival strategy to meet the needs of the organisation, showcasing LSTM’s unique archives as a collection of International significance, to take positive steps to achieve equality by supporting the Race Equality Framework through the investigation of our history and heritage, and contributing to Information and Knowledge exchange strategy.

Your responsibilities will include:

Archival Administration and Operation

  • Implementing an anti-racist co-produced approach to archive access; collaborating with information services and academic partners to catalogue, digitise and develop collections
  • Managing archive systems in accordance with ED&I principles, developing growth strategies, and working with Library team to support day-to-day access

Engagement and Access

  • Collaborating with Data Protection Manager to ensure records adhere to DP policies; managing scanning, upload, and storage monitoring on Content DM.
  • Coordination of various teams for events, displays, and engagement activities; engaging community groups for widening participation, including training on archiving and conservation.
  • Liaising with academic, archive, and curatorial colleagues globally; working with stakeholders on grant applications; responding to enquiries and managing personnel in the archive.

Policies and Strategy

  • Managing the process for Record holders to transition current records that will become archives
  • Proactively seek opportunities to embed collections for engagement and KEF strategy; identify material for integration into taught courses and research portfolios.

Collection of statistics and communications

  • Contribute to departmental and organizational strategies for information and records retention; monitor sector approaches and innovations in archival access and collection development.
  • Provide necessary material for FOI or DP requests; maintain records statistics for SCONUL, JISC, and HESA; manage intranet pages; and contribute to REF or KEF working groups on Archival and Public Engagement Activities.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Educated to Degree Level
  • Experience in Archive work or records management experience would be advantageous
  • Experience of EAD and Archival listing technologies
  • Experience in Public Engagement Activities
  • An Understanding and willingness to work in a multi-cultural environment
  • The ability to deal with staff at all levels of the organisations with confidence
